Today, the sun paused at its zenith. The Summer Solstice reminds us that even in a darkening world, light endures, if we choose to face it.
From the stone circles of Wiltshire to the streets of Lagos, humans have long gathered to mark this longest day with reverence. At Stonehenge, the sun rose between ancient stones, its rays falling exactly where they did 5,000 years ago. In Sweden and across the Arctic Circle, communities danced around maypoles, honoring the midsummer sun with joy and tradition. And in New York’s Times Square, modern-day seekers laid down yoga mats, celebrating stillness and spiritual alignment.
There is meaning in this alignment. Across time and culture, the solstice speaks of renewal, courage, and clarity. A call to reorient ourselves to what matters. To look not away from the world’s pain, but toward the light within it.
As global tensions rise, in the Middle East, in our politics, in our relationships with nature, the solstice offers no easy answers. But it does offer a place to stand. A place where the shadows fall behind us.
“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.”
— Albert Camus
